Aaron began playing trumpet in fifth grade. He played principle trumpet in his high school wind ensemble, orchestra and jazz ensemble and started several small groups as well as winning the coveted John Philip Sousa and Louis Armstrong awards his senior year. Attending the University of Minnesota as a music major, Aaron had the opportunity to study under such venerable instructors and performers as Dr. David Baldwin, Gary Bordner of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Chuck Lazarus and Fernando Meza of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, Robert Baca, Dean Sorenson Craig Kirchhoff, and Gunther Schuller.
He performed in the U of M’s Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble I, Trumpet Ensemble, Brass Quintet, as well as with many smaller groups. He has shared the stage with many prominent artists such as John Fedchock, Dick Oatts, Rolando Morales-Matos, Bobby Peterson, Delbert McClinton, Jim Belushi, Corey Stevens, POD, Bruce Hornsby, Moses Oakland, Lamont Cranston, Hurricane James Hackney (Ike Turner, Al Green, Sam Cook,) Jellybean Johnson (Morris Day and the Time,) MN’s Music Hall of Fame inductees Dave Waggoner and Willie Walker, Larry Foyen (Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles) Kip Blackshire, Barry Alexander (Johnny Lang,) Desdamona, Jack Brass, The New Congress, Down Lo, Copasetic and many more.
Aaron is a multi-genre performer and currently sings and plays trumpet regularly with, in addition to 8 Switch, Alex Rossi and Root City Band, Dan Kusz, The Stephanie Devine Band, Dan Ristrom and the Big Throwdown, Debra G, Buckets and Tap Shoes, Andy Ausland and the Stir Fry Wizards, Black Belt Jonezin, and Jonathan Earl, among others.
